Sell Your Coins in Tasmania

What we buy

  • Mint-issued products and boxed collections: Royal Australian Mint, Perth Mint and international mint issues, including silver proof coins, uncirculated sets, proof sets, gold sets and uncirculated mint-issued coins. Packaged mint product is of particular interest.
  • Suitable Australian pre-decimal coins: threepences, sixpences, shillings, florins and crowns, including key dates.
  • Sovereigns, half sovereigns and other suitable gold coins.
  • Collectible banknotes: pre-decimal, paper decimal and polymer notes, from single notes to full collections.
  • Graded coins, genuine rarities and specialist material: including PCGS graded coins, key date coins and high-value numismatic items.
  • Mixed and inherited collections: family collections and deceased estates.

You do not need to identify, catalogue or value every item before contacting us. Send photographs first and we will assess whether your collection is suitable for purchase.

What we generally don’t buy

  • Ordinary Australian decimal coins from circulation, including HH $2 coins and commemorative coins found in change
  • Common circulated pennies and halfpennies, except key dates or uncirculated examples
  • Ordinary modern non-silver world coins brought home from travel

Key dates, genuine rarities and uncirculated examples can be exceptions. If you are unsure, include them in your photographs.

Send photographs, a brief description and your location. For larger collections, start with overview photographs and a few representative close-ups. You do not need to identify or value every item before contacting us.

We respond to enquiries within 48 hours.

This is a free assessment for potential purchase, not a formal insurance or probate valuation.

How selling works

  1. Send photographs, a brief description and your suburb or postcode and state.

  2. We assess suitability and, where appropriate, make an offer or explain what further information or inspection is needed.

  3. If you proceed, we agree inspection, handover and electronic payment arrangements.

Selling a collection from Tasmania

Whether you’re in Hobart, Launceston or elsewhere in Tasmania, you can start with photographs of your collection. Ensleigh Coins is based in Sydney, and you do not need to travel to Sydney to make an initial enquiry.

For a larger collection, send overview photographs and a few representative close-ups, together with your location and a brief description. You do not need to identify or value every item first.

After reviewing your photographs, we can discuss the next steps for suitable material. Please contact us before posting anything so that any inspection or transport arrangements can be agreed in advance.

Appointments and collection visits

Interstate collection visits are generally considered for collections valued at $20,000 or more, subject to the collection, location and prior agreement. This is a travel guideline, not a minimum for enquiring. If you’re unsure of your collection’s value, start by sending photographs.

Ewen’s experience: sending material from Tasmania for auction

Ewen has sent material from Tasmania by post on multiple occasions for sale through Copeland Roberts (opens in a new tab), our associated auction house.

Across 14 consignments, his material has been offered and sold through a succession of auctions. Sending material by post has allowed him to sell from Tasmania without travelling to Sydney, with consignments spread over time.

For Tasmanian collectors considering their options, an outright sale to Ensleigh Coins and auction consignment through Copeland Roberts offer different ways to sell. The appropriate route depends on the material and your preferences, with auction fees and terms explained before proceeding.

Start by sending photographs, a brief description and your location. We can discuss suitability for direct purchase or auction and agree the next steps before you post anything.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you buy collections from Tasmania?

Yes. Ensleigh Coins is based in Sydney and welcomes enquiries from sellers throughout Tasmania. Send photographs, a brief description and your location using the enquiry form so we can assess whether your collection is suitable for purchase.

Do I need to know what my coins are worth?

No. You do not need to identify, catalogue or value every item before contacting us. Send photographs first and we will assess whether your collection is suitable for purchase and, where appropriate, make an offer or explain what further information or inspection is needed.

What photographs should I send?

Use the enquiry form to send photographs, a brief description and your location. For larger collections, start with overview photographs and a few representative close-ups. The form explains what to include with your upload.

Can you arrange a collection visit in Tasmania?

A visit may be possible after we review your photographs. See the collection-visit guidance above, and contact us to agree any arrangements before planning a visit.

Can I post my coins to you?

Please do not post anything until we have assessed your photographs and agreed the arrangements with you. Contact us first using the enquiry form or at contact@ensleighcoins.com, and we will explain the next step if your collection is suitable.

Is this a formal valuation?

No. Our free assessment is for the purpose of a potential purchase. It is not a formal insurance or probate valuation.

How does payment work?

If you accept our offer, we agree the inspection and handover details and pay by electronic transfer once the purchase is finalised. Payments are made via OSKO, which is not always instantaneous and may take more than 24 hours to process.

Can I discuss auction instead of direct sale?

Yes. Ensleigh Coins works in partnership with Copeland Roberts, a specialist numismatic auction house where Robbie is also Managing Director. Suitable material can be discussed for consignment, and results depend on the auction, applicable fees and settlement terms. Mention it in your enquiry and we can talk through both options.

Terms and Conditions

Our free assessment is for people considering selling to Ensleigh Coins. We may decline to assess or make an offer on material that falls outside our buying interests, has limited resale value or is not being offered for sale. If we cannot assist, we will explain why.

If we make an offer but the collection is found to be either faulty, contains forgeries or fakes or has any other significant defects that were not disclosed during the assessment process, we reserve the right to withdraw our offer. Payment will be made by electronic transfer via OSKO. This, however, may not always be instantaneous and may result in processing times in excess of 24 hours. Unfortunately, this is out of our control.
