1998 was the first year a proof version of the one ounce silver skippy dollar coin was released. The $1 proof has frosted designs and mirror fields with a "C" for Canberra mintmark, only 5000 coins were struck by the Royal Australian Mint in an acrylic capsule. These were then packaged by dealers in a special unofficial plush presentation case.
