2025 2oz Honey Bee Silver Antiqued Coloured Coin

The western honey bee, scientifically known as Apis mellifera, derives its name from Latin origins. The word “Apis”
translates to “bee” while “mellifera” means “honey-bearing” or “honey-carrying”. This name aptly describes the
species’ ability to produce and store honey, a characteristic that has made it one of the most significant and
widespread honey bee species in the world. Its role in honey production and pollination underlines its essential
contribution to ecosystems and agriculture worldwide.
The Western honey bee, armed with specially adapted hairs that form saddlebags on their hindlegs, are among the
most efficient pollinators on Earth.
The coin portrays a coloured pair of worker bees, resting on the petals of a striking pink daisy flower with a yellow
centre. The background incorporates illustrations of additional honey bees, busily collecting nectar from sheets of
honeycomb and blooming flowers. As well as a ribbon scroll with the inscription ‘HONEY BEE’. Also included is the
coin’s weight, purity, 2025 year-date, and The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark.
The coin is housed in a classic display case with a clear lid. Packaged within an illustrated shipper, each coin is
accompanied by a numbered certificate of authenticity.
