This moving commemorative honours the courageous Australian soldiers who withstood the prolonged siege of Tobruk, Libya, during World War II from April to December 1941.
Struck from 1 troy ounce of 99.9% pure silver, the coin’s reverse features a rugged depiction of a determined Australian soldier standing against desert fortifications, with barbed wire and the inscription “THE RATS OF TOBRUK 1941 – 2016”. A stylised Union Jack and Rising Sun badge add symbolic weight to the design.
The obverse features the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank-Broadley. This coin is Australian legal tender and comes presented in a black Perth Mint display case with a themed outer shipper and numbered Certificate of Authenticity. The mintage was strictly limited to 5,000 coins worldwide.
